TAMOXIFEN, BREAST CANCER AND LOWER CHOLESTEROL

Studies have shown that the breast cancer drug tamoxifen also has a positive impact on cholesterol levels. But at least in the short term, the drug does not appear to protect against heart disease, according to results from the Breast Cancer Prevention Trial (BCPT).
  Writing in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Steven Reis of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and colleagues reported results from the BCPT showing that ta
moxifen 

taken by women at high risk of breast cancer reduced the chance of developing breast cancer by about half.
  However, in addition to looking at tamoxifen's effect on breast disease, the researchers conducting the BCPT trial followed the 13,388 participants to see whether the drug had any affect on heart health. After an average follow-up of 49 months, they found no significant difference in the rate of
