Dear Friend:
In order to raise awareness of our cause and to procure contributions to the Underinsured Cancer Patients’ Endowment Fund, Academy for Cancer Wellness, Inc., will host its second fall gala event on Sunday 19th October 2008 from 5:30 to 9:00 PM at the Doubletree Hotel. The Confetti Gala will open with a silent auction of local goods, services, and vacation opportunities, and will continue with a full-service dinner and a musical variety show spotlighting a number of Tucson’s finer performing artists.
Academy for Cancer Wellness, Inc., is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to Tucson-area cancer patients who fall within the guidelines of ‘working poor’. For more information on who we are and what we do, please, read the enclosed History and Mission Statement. We have been building the Underinsured Cancer Patients’ Endowment Fund since its inception in 2003 by hosting annual spring concerts and periodic fall benefit events. In April 2008, our sixth annual Music and Memories concert raised the fund to the $70,000 mark. The Endowment Goal is $150,000.
Our goal for this event is to net $80,000 to mature the Underinsured Cancer Patients’ Endowment Fund. All profit from this event will be designated to this fund. There are a number of ways that your organization can help:
- by becoming an event sponsor or underwriter;
- by donating goods, services, or vacation opportunities to our silent auction & raffle;
- by including us in your charitable giving by means of cash donation.
Attached you will find an explanation of the categories and types of contributions we are seeking. For our previous silent auction and raffle, both individuals and businesses have donated fine jewelry, spa treatments, and vacation packages to destinations both domestic and abroad, as well as many other desirable goods and services.
The Academy for Cancer Wellness operates solely on the volunteer efforts and generous contributions of organizations like yours. We welcome your charity, your inquiries, and your wishes for continued success.
Yours sincerely,
Alice F Chang Barbara Hoffman

The Academy for Cancer Wellness Presents
The Confetti Gala
A Benefit for the Underinsured Cancer Patients’ Endowment Fund
On October 19th you will have the opportunity to participate in an unusual charity event
hosted by the Academy for Cancer Wellness. The Confetti Gala will take place at the
DoubleTree Hotel, 445 S. Alvernon Way, from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. Proceeds will benefit
the Underinsured Cancer Patients’ Endowment Fund established to provide direct
financial assistance to Tucson area cancer patients who fall within the category of
“working poor”.The Confetti Gala promises to be an active and entertaining evening.
The Gala opens with an upscale silent auction full of outstanding donations from local
businesses and patrons. There will be artwork, collectibles, jewelry, sports memorabilia,
entertainment and restaurant packages, gift certificates for services and much more.
Julian Karahalios and Friends will add their special flavor of jazz music to enhance the
silent auction and dinner hour. Banquet service will begin promptly at 6:30, providing
time to relax with old friends and meet new people..
Immediately following dinner, guests will have a little old fashion fun by engaging in a
Balloon Pop. This “grab-bag” activity packs a bang. Each balloon is guaranteed to deliver
something worth two to five times its price! Also the Confetti Gala Public Raffle will be
conducted, with a drawing for five high dollar prizes—a one-of-a-kind gold and
gemstone ring donated by Souligny, Fine Dining Package courtesy of Tucson Originals, a
Rocky Point Getaway donated by Premier Hotel Group, and a Tucson Arts Package
featuring tickets to live performance events offered by the Tucson Symphony Orchestra,
UA Presents, the Arizona Theater Company, the Invisible Theater, and Beowulf Alley.
(Note: Raffle tickets are on sale now. You do not need to be present to win).
To round out the evening, the Confetti Gala presents the vocal artistry of Lissa Staples,
John Thuerbach, Kristina Sloan, and Christopher Jackson; accompanied by pianist Marie
Sierra. These acclaimed performers have appeared in a wide variety of venues in Tucson
and throughout the United States. Under the direction of Ms. Staples, they come together
as The Copper Quartet to present a lively and sophisticated hour of Broadway music and
more. A few special guests will add to the fun, ensuring that this fundraising event will be
remembered as a truly remarkable one.
The Confetti Gala provides an excellent opportunity to help members of our community
and to honor persons in your life who have faced the challenge of living with cancer.
